Homeowners insurance

What will a homeowners policy pay for?

Most policies cover your home's structure, other structures on the property, your personal belongings, extra living expenses if you have to move out during repairs, and personal liability. See our homeowners overview for details.

Do I have to carry homeowners insurance?

No state law requires it, but lenders almost always require it on a financed home. Even if your home is paid off, coverage protects what is likely your largest asset.

Does homeowners insurance cover floods or earthquakes?

Usually not. Flood and earthquake typically need separate policies or endorsements. We can help you add flood coverage.

How much coverage do I need?

Your dwelling coverage should reflect the cost to rebuild your home, which can differ from its market value. Your agent can help estimate rebuild costs and choose liability limits.

Auto insurance

Which auto coverages should I consider?

The right mix varies with the vehicle, your budget, and your state. Common coverages include liability, collision, comprehensive, uninsured and underinsured motorist, and medical payments or personal injury protection. See our auto overview.

Is car insurance mandatory?

Almost every state sets a minimum amount of liability coverage you must carry. Requirements vary by state, and your lender or lease company may require more.

Are there ways to save on car insurance?

Bundling with homeowners, raising your deductible, keeping a clean driving record, and asking about available discounts can all help. We'll compare options across carriers for you.

I was just in a car accident. What now?

Make sure everyone is safe and call 911 if anyone is hurt. Swap names, insurance details, and plate numbers with the other driver, take photos, and report the claim to your insurance company as soon as you can. Call us if you need help with next steps.

Umbrella and flood insurance

Is an umbrella policy worth it for me?

Anyone whose assets or future income could exceed their home and auto liability limits in a lawsuit. It's especially worth considering if you own a pool, have a teen driver, or host guests often.

Do I need flood insurance if I'm not in a high-risk flood zone?

It's worth considering. Many flood claims are filed by homeowners outside high-risk zones, and premiums there are often lower.

When does flood coverage start?

Policies through the federal flood program (NFIP) typically have a 30-day waiting period, with some exceptions. Private flood policies may differ.
